Clare studied painting at Camberwell school of Arts and Crafts, then worked for Thomas Messel, furniture designer and maker, followed by Arnold Wiggins and Sons, Frame makers and suppliers of antique frames of a very high quality.

She went to live in Paris where she started making copies of antique gilded objects – lights, curtain finials etc. and pioneered the technique of Eglomise glass gilding , using it in a modern way.

She makes bespoke pieces to suit customers decoration, bespoke friezes round a central Eglomise mirror for example.
